Why DuckDuckGo is building its own web search index

I use exclusively ddg, but I would like to hear what they've been doing for the past 10 years if they only now decided that having their own search would be a good idea. And what a weird timing. In my view LLMs are going to kill (large parts / most of) search. NOW is when you decide to build search? Anyway, I will definitely watch, thanks for sharing.
