i dont get this line of thinking. the root problem with social media is that its centralized and for profit. all the other things privacy issues and political extremes come from that, its not fundamentally evil it just needs to be decentralized. capitalism takes good ideas and implements them in a bad way. bluesky is most of the way to a great alternative with a fair amount of users but it still needs to get over its "twitter for liberal nerds" reputation, the elon drama was equal parts a blessing and a curse. i feel like the biggest problem with fediverse/alt social is actually trying to be "too good" and avoiding addictive features on purpose. if we can get people hooked on something with a transparent open source algorithm and no manipulation that means we win.
