The military better pay attention to this kind of thing. Enlisted recruiting relies on the promise of medium-term gains (schooling, training) but relies on the first few years being better than the alternatives facing the 18-21's. Take that away, throwing in the chance of actually dying will make taking the King's Shilling distasteful. No enlisted, no grunts, nobody to do the scut work. They're already trying to reduce reliance on various social groups. Losing the remainder will mean those pretty boats and birds will just sit there broken.

I think the pro-war crown really takes the military for granted, especially the junior enlisted folks. Either you provide effective leadership (from Washington, DC) or you lose the people on the ground.
