Gross. Music is one of the great joys of life. It’s a tactile, emotional experience. Learning to play and make music does wonderful things for your brain. By far the worst use of AI is replacing human art.

Music vandalism. Get fucked with that anti-humanity crap.

>What comes next is a new kind of product we’re developing: opt-in experiences built around individual artists, where artists can choose to participate and get paid when they do, and fans get new ways to connect with the artists they love.

A music creation tool by people and for people who either don't understand music, or low-key hate it.

Music generation elicits pure disgust in me, more so than any other type of generated content. I presume it's because there is so little 'utilitarian' music that's needed in the world-- none at all, I'd argue. If Suno was limited to generating muzak, then fine I suppose, but does the world really need muzak? With images and video, one could make the argument that some of it is/can be utilitarian (slide shows in video format, simple graphics, stock photos/video clips, etc). While generating content like this does take away bread from some artists, you can make the case that artists or video editing professionals are wasted on creating content like that. But music? Music exists almost solely to elicit emotion and express emotion, not to inform. I consider empathy a virtue and nurture it in myself, but hard as I have tried I cannot place myself in the shoes of people who'd enjoy generating music for themselves and listening to it, or listening to music generated by others. I'm also in disbelief that not one music streaming service has implemented a system that weeds out ALL generated content. When Spotify played slop to me twice, I cancelled my subscription that I had for 5 years and spent time looking for an alternative-- Deezer "labels" generated music but does not forbid it. Other than them, nobody else seems to be interested in tackling this problem. Which makes me think I might be somewhat alone in my disgust.

the tension is going to continue for a while. this model is pretty strong, which is saying a lot. i am a musician (songwriter/singer/multi-instrumentalist) with many, many years under my belt. i still like writing songs, i do it all the time. kind of like their educational benefits in other areas, the music models -- musiclm first, then stable, then suno for me -- have taught me, somehow, so much more about how the music i like to listen to works, and i am already seeing the benefits in my (extremely human, perhaps award-winningly so) music practice. it is ALSO true that it can help you pinpoint all the kinds of music you like that don't exist, and that is very tempting -- with suno in particular, it can be intoxicatingly button-pushing, pun intended. it's difficult but possible to resist that pull. there are people blissing out to inhuman music with their fave microgenres and that is bad, whether they are musicians or not. (i have a hunch that musicians are more susceptible to this particular breed of siren virus than non-, but no anecdata to back it up). i think the main reason i risked my precious pointz by posting this is to say: it is extremely clear that lots of musicians are using this tool (and the other similar ones, lyria aside lol, rip musiclm) in both scrupulous and unscrupulous ways. non-musicians too, but uh, maybe fewer scrupulous options open to them (doesn't take much to "be" a musician, just a willingess of soul!)

Music creation ha that requires a human's raw human form talent not typing into a prompt. Signed a hobbyist human songwriter who has a hate and minor like for Suno as im not a good singer.
