God, imagine being trapped in a plane for 24 hours! And I just checked the current flight time between Melbourne, Australia and London, UK, and, even with 1 stop, it's still around 24 hours - https://www.google.com/travel/flights/search?tfs=CBwQAhoeEgo... . The break due to a stop (if you are allowed to step out ofcourse) can be a relief on such long flights. What we need is more research on supersonic flights to cut down travel time ...

When my family emigrated from Scotland to Australia in the early 80s, we flew EDI-CDG-BAH-HKG-MEL. Now I've flown many polar flights from SEA-DXB/DOH, etc. Such a difference.
