Relying on search engines to "follow the rules" is the wrong approach.

Private as in chats for which the user generated a share link and posted it somewhere online that a search engine's web crawler found, as far as I can tell.

Google is a lot more public than it should be, but there's nothing private about chats with Claude or any other chatbot that isn't running locally. It's funny that last year Anthropic tried to say that robots.txt was enough to protect people's data when they themselves have been accused of ignoring it whenever they want to scrape websites. https://www.businessinsider.com/openai-anthropic-ai-ignore-r...

Ugh >_< Clickbait / misleading title - these aren’t private chats: > says an Anthropic spokesperson, “These shareable links are not guessable or discoverable unless people choose to share them themselves. When someone shares a conversation, they are making that content publicly accessible, and like other public web content, it may be archived by third-party services.” These are publicly shared convos, turning up in search engine results - just like every other publicly available content the search engine had crawled/indexed. This is the system working as intended / expected
