Natural gas generators are sometimes converted aviation high bypass turbofan engines. By running many of them, such a site creates a lot of local noise, chemical vapor, and particulate pollution.

Unpaywalled article: https://www.tomshardware.com/tech-industry/data-centers/elon... Bonus, DOJ is trying to sweep this lawsuit under the rug: https://ballsandstrikes.org/law-politics/xai-memphis-trump-d... "In the memo accompanying its motion, the DOJ characterizes the NAACP’s lawsuit as a national security threat—Colossus powers Grok, an AI model that the Department of Defense uses in military operations—and contends that enforcing the Clean Air Act against xAI is not 'consistent with federal policy and the public interest.'" This is for unpermitted construction polluting nearby neighborhoods.

At this point the government could come out and say home depot or croissants or laws against coffee enemas or the smell of rain on the ground is a national security threat and not a single court would stop them. Then some idiot on fox would come out screaming about coffee enemas and conservatives would start going on social media talking about doing coffee enemas to own the libs. Everyones sick of it but literally no one is protesting. Blows my mind.
