Gateway seemed to be pretty roundly panned by space experts, including a number of former astronauts, notably Buzz Aldin. Still, any change at this point is a death sentence for the U.S.’s lead in Space Race 2.0. The space industry (outside of SpaceX) is known for being a retirement community. Meanwhile, the Chinese are humming along working 996 while getting little press over here.
