That seems like a fantastic idea, I hope it goes through and gets widely imitated in other countries. I imagine that the usual villain gallery will launch a panicked lobbying initiative behind the scenes.

How would opt-out help at a societal level? Reddit offers an opt-out (old.reddit.com) of some of its most deleterious changes, but that didn't stop the site from going downhill overall: the vast majority of users remained on the new site or the phone app. I can imagine the same with opt-out of algorithms: you might get a saner view, but you are still on a platform that has an overall culture molded by the default view.
