The water jet ruined my teeth. I would not advise anyone to use them. Edit: here are some anecdotes https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfmaude/d... Edit 2: It might be that I didn’t maintain it properly and the water reservoir was building up bio film over period of time and actively distributing bacterial to my gums.

Man marketing really screwed a great engineered product. 4k resolution mouth camera?? That's why we go to a dentist every 6 months because I wouldnt know wtf im looking at. "Oh there's that canker sore I feel. Huh, at least I can see it" Bruh, you don't need a camera for gap detection. Just stick an IR sensor, detect change in light. Boom, $0.05.

The HN title makes it sound like Toothbrush is their brand, and with the appropriation of common terms for the sake of the brand, I bought it. I would be disinclined to use it. (42 pages) What sounds the most amazing in a press release is often not the most medically sound. Edit: it's hard to find clear info on the risks of using an electric toothbrush or even on overbrushing, because a lot of search results are blogspam. To me it's unclear, but there is a point of pressure at which the cleaning effect stops, and it is better not to go beyond that.

This is the gold standard of how to properly apply AI to an existing product like a toothbrush, with significant engineering quality that actually makes it better. That is what I call not "slop".

I would happily spend $500 on this if it really did what it claims to. Maybe. But I find myself a bit skeptical. Would love to see some long-term third party testing on it.

I laughed out loud when I read the title, but the more I read about it, it actually sounds really cool. I know that is just their advertising and marketing jargon that is doing this but it does sound awesome... definitely not 500$ worth of awesome though

Not really excited for a $500 toothbrush, but this should have an awesome impact on the rest of the market. Putting the word "camera" in the name seems pretty dumb, but who knows? Maybe I'm the dumb one.

My dentist uses AI for X-ray analysis. I wish I remembered the name but the monitor was facing me and it was obvious. They also use some sort of fancy imaging tool that they run around my mouth to create a 3d image.

Do people on HN actually buy/like Dyson products? My impression is they're actually way overpriced relative to their quality/value, and get away with it due to effective marketing and aesthetic design. To be fair, I've never owned a Dyson product, but have used them, and they just seem meh at best. Just really surprised to see a Dyson announcement get upvotes on HN.

Having once bought a girlfriend the $400 Dyson hairdryer, I tried to guess the price before I clicked the link, but I still guessed low.

Water flossers with handheld tanks are already unwieldy. I can't imagine using one with the head vibrating, water coming out of my mouth, and I'm trying to view the inside of my mouth in an app. Replaceable battery though. $20 Sonicare can't do that!
