Very sad to see this (and cancelled my subscription). My home-grown web-based orchestrator will now have to rely on just codex and Gemini. One of the reasons that I was wary of turning it into a product. Eventually Google and OpenAI will probably follow Anthropic, but they’re not quite as capacity-constrained.

This is very generous. The agent sdk and -p were abused by other devs and "startups." They tried to block them, and we had the Hermes gate disaster. This is a very clean and low maintenance way to own their moat back. Anthropic is selling subsidized products and not a subsidized AI, and they have all rights to.

doesn't stop someone running a long running claude cli session in tmux and programmatically giving it messages... anthropic is fighting an unwinnable battle
