Did they finally make a viable version of spanner for themselves?

Anyone know the usage of this? I looked at it but wanted postgresqls XML data type which may not have been supported when I looked. RDS stuff is just nice as a strong reliable database - so even if not fully doing AWS I've often put the database stuff in RDS.
