There haven’t been any major reasons to upgrade in many years. What kept them afloat was their boutique branding, but people have less disposable income and sorry, having the cool new iPhone that looks and acts the exact same as the last 10 isn’t going to cut it anymore. Thinner. Lighter. Slightly faster. More expensive. No one really cares. Their keynotes are monotonous, with long diatribes on how many oz they’ve shaved off hardware that no one can even notice during tests. I’d advise them to innovate more but showing up with a VR headset and foldable phone many, many years after they’ve already been in the market shows they’re out of ideas.

It's not a demand problem, it's a pricing problem.

Simple: 17 Pro was near perfection and sold like hot cakes. People are not upgrading.

Honestly it may just be that lots of people - especially those with deep pockets - are going to buy the Duo instead. Not a mention in the article, maybe someone is short on Apple and could use a dip, so conveniently forgets a logical explanation.

The iPhone 17's colors were 1000x better, but also until the 16th this is premature. Does the dip match the surge for the Duo or is the Duo a flop. I've upgraded to every new Pro/Plus/S phone since the 3GS but didn't get the 18 Pro because I'm going to try the Duo. If I hate it I'll return it and go back to my Cosmic Orange 17 Pro. I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed that color, every previous phone of mine was "black".

I upgraded to an 18 pro from the 15 pro, partially on a whim since there were good trade in deals and partly because of the battery life promises. The battery is better, but I probably would have been fine just getting my old battery replaced. Other than that, I don't see really any other benefit. I preferred the smaller and lighter 15 pro model and it kind of pisses me off that they keep sneaking in an extra 0.1" and 10 grams every other year.

No reason to upgrade from 15 Pro to 18 pro. Recently refreshed the battery in 15 Pro for $60 and the phone feels new again. Processor and cameras are fine for all my daily needs as is the storage and all radio/wifi speeds. I usually upgrade every 2 years. But looks like it will be at least 4 this time. Meanwhile still paying rent for iCloud/sevices … so Apple is still winning. Might get a Duo for device testing but definitely won’t use it as a daily driver, no need for that much screen.

I thought Apple did poorly in this year 18 Pro Marketing. The A20 Pro was a massive jump in performance per watt, meaning higher efficiency. A lot of site that latter discovered what A20 Pro were doing thought Apple under sell its achievement. They should have provided battery life compare to 14 Pro and 15 Pro. Which is anywhere from 30% to 40% more. That is a huge jump and a lot of people are still on 13 - 15 range. That single reason should have pushed an upgrading cycle alone. Every other phone has increased their price for a lot more in terms of percentage. Apple is actually on the lower side especially to entry model. Some how this message should have been marketed. A lot of iPhone user aren't aware that Android have gotten a lot more expensive as well for their flagship.

Clearly 15% of those missing customers will be getting the Duo.
