It took the Shopify CEO tweet and Astra causing a large move towards Codex for them to finally give in. It's hard to believe it was worth it in the end. On the other hand, most people will forget about this saga in a few months, so sadly it may just have been worth it.

From their changelog: 2.1.277 September 18, 2026 Added AGENTS.md support: in a project with no CLAUDE.md, Claude Code reads AGENTS.md instead; change it under “Project instructions” in /config (not yet on Bedrock, Vertex or Foundry) Note that this *does not include .agents/skills*. Argh.
