“The conception before was that, when it came to nucleosomes, genes were either turned on or off, but we’re finding it’s more like a volume dial,” this is not a new paradigm. this was apparent in the late 80s. modulation of DNA / nucleosomal binding affinity, is a known epigenetic mechanism for the last 35 years. DNA expressivity is not digital, its result of many affinity based interactions over time contributing to a summary result in the form of conformational change or rate of reaction.
